Youth Soccer Leagues Open for Spring and Summer
/The Kearney Parks and Recreation Department (KPR) is gearing up for another season of its popular Youth Soccer League, designed to introduce children ages 4 to 14 to the joys of soccer through fun activities and engaging games. The league, held at Jesse James Park Soccer Fields (3001 N. Hwy 33, Kearney, MO 64060), offers a welcoming environment for both newcomers and experienced young athletes.
Teams will begin practice in mid-April, with 1-2 practices per week. The season features six Saturday games starting in May, giving children ample opportunity to develop their skills and enjoy friendly competition. The program will run from April 6, 2026, to June 29, 2026.
Players are assigned to divisions based on their age as of April 1, 2026. For example, children who are 8 on April 1 will play in the Under 10 division, while those who are 10 will participate in the Under 12 division. This system provides a fair and consistent framework for all participants, even if their birthday falls during the season.
All games follow standard soccer rules, and each player will receive a jersey provided by KPR. Parents and guardians are responsible for supplying shoes, shorts, socks, and shin guards.
KPR’s youth sports programs rely on the dedication of volunteer coaches. Those interested in coaching can sign up via the "Volunteer" tab. Volunteer coaches not only help create a positive experience for young athletes, but also receive a free registration for their child (credited for future use after practices begin). Coaches are able to select practice days and times to fit their schedules, making volunteering an ideal option for families wishing to guarantee specific practice times.
Registration for Youth Soccer Leagues is open now. Families interested in volunteering as coaches or applying for scholarships are encouraged to reach out early to secure their spot and take advantage of available options. For more details or to register, visit the KearneyParks.com website or contact Ryan Marcotte at 816-903-4730.
