Kearney Recognized as Tree City

The City of Kearney announced on Friday, March 3, the National Arbor Day Foundation recognized Kearney as a Tree City again this year.

The Tree City USA program was founded in 1976 to celebrate towns and cities committed to growing their urban canopy. Led by the Arbor Day Foundation, with partners at USDA Forest Service and National Association of State Foresters, it provides the foundational framework necessary for communities to manage and expand their tree cover.

Cities can receive annual Tree City recognition by meeting these four overarching standards: maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry, and celebrating Arbor Day.

This is the 11th year that the Arbor Day Foundation has designated Kearney as a Tree City.
